Sinclair birdies a victory

POLOKWANE – After an intense nine hour struggle during the Nomads SA boys u/19 Match Play Championship Rosswell Sinclair claimed the final victory against Juan-Pierre ‘JP’ Cooper with two points on hole 36 at the Polokwane Golf Club on Saturday.

The match between the two Pretoria born golfers had golf enthusiasts on the edge of their seats. Sinclair said the match was tough and he was nervous.

“It was a good match and I just had to pull up my socks to be a point ahead to win the championships. Cooper and I have been playing golf together for a while now and I know that he can be dangerous if undermined,” said Sinclair.

He added that young golfers should practice as often as possible to know their game and to excel in it. He said he aims to get a golf scholarship that would send him to the US.

Eden Thompson, South African Golf Association golf integration manager said the tournament was a huge success.

“All the golfers played championship winning golf, but we all know that there can only be one winner. Some of the favourites were knocked out of the tournament sooner that expected,” said Thompson.

He added that the championship serves as a stepping stone for Sinclair and this might open doors for him internationally.

He further said the association wishes him the best of luck with his future endeavours and urged him to train hard to win more championships in the years to come.

Sinclair got federation colours after participating in the international u/16 Golf Championships that took place in Italy in 2013.

In the semi-finals, Cooper defeated Kyle Barker 3-2 while Sinclair defeated Luca Filippi 2-1.
