THOHOYANDOIU – VASCO da Gama will face off with Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-final of the Nedbank Cup after defeating Black Leopards 3-2 in extra time during their clash in Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday.

It was a disappointing afternoon for Lidoda Duvha supporters as their team was the first to hit the target through their lethal strikers, Roggert Nyundu’s free-kick in the 15th minutes of the game which left the visitors keeper, Steven Hoffman with no options.

Leopards dominated the game but their strikers missed optimal chances to increase the tally in the first half of the match. It was 1-0 with Leopards in the lead when the two sides went to halftime.

After the interval, the Cape side came back and played as the more organised team, putting more pressure on the Leopards’ defence.

Da Gama equalised in the 70th minute when Ndiviwe Mdabuka released a shot, leaving keeper Avhashoni Tshinuna flat footed.

The game went into extra time and Leopards scored their second goal in the 100th minute when Morgan Shivambu headed past keeper Hoffman.

Da Gama equalised through Karke’s header before the end of the first half during extra time.

The Cape side continued to charge at the Leopards defence, to score the winning goal (3-2) seven minutes prior to the final whistle.
