POLOKWANE – Participants had to endure harsh weather conditions and a different route during the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon that took place in Cape Town on Saturday.

Due to the recent fires that took place on Cape Town’s southern peninsula, safety measures had to be taken and runners had to use an entirely different route.

The different route wasn’t the only challenge for the runners: harsh weather conditions along the way also made an impact and runners had to endure rain and cloudy, cold, misty weather.

Local runners who competed in the marathon were set to impress.

Jane Mudau (52), a member of the Pietersburg Road Runners, competed in her ninth Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon and yet again impressed with outstanding results. She ran the ultra marathon in a time of 4:25:24 and came 21st in the women’s division. She also came first among the women aged between 50- and 59-years.

Mudau’s marathon performance has been impressive, and she also won the BMW Marathon and the Mall of the North Marathon.

“We are extremely proud of her, she has a great mindset and focus towards marathons, and she is a very humble and strong runner” Ryan Chapman, Pietersburg Road Runners secretary, said.
