SLC Wik Triathlon a suitable tribute to beloved employee

To commemorate the life of former Stanford Lake College (SLC) staff member, Wik van der Walt, SLC hosted the annual Wik Triathlon last Sunday.

POLOKWANE – To commemorate the life of former Stanford Lake College (SLC) staff member, Wik van der Walt, SLC hosted the annual Wik Triathlon last Sunday.

Van der Walt passed away on June 30 in 2012 while he was competing in a mountain bike race.

He was a member of the school’s outdoor centre’s staff, loved by learners and personnel and very passionate about the environment and adventure.

This year 320 athletes participated in the event, 80 more than last year.

Aidan du Preez of SLC was awarded the Wik Trophy for best performance and for being the overall winner of the race.

Du Preez broke the Wik Triathlon record by finishing the Wik 500 m swim, 15km mountain bike ride and 5 km trail run in a time of 1:18:37.

Du Preez was followed by Lachlan Truesdale, also from SLC, in second place who finished the race in a time of 1:20:11.
