POLOKWANE – Team Stanford Lake College (SLC), consisting of Rhoan Abbott and Gary Middleton, finished on position 328 out of 600 teams during the 2015 Absa Cape Epic that concluded on March 20.

The race covered 740km in seven days over extremely rugged, rocky and sandy terrain.

Over the seven race days and the one prologue day, the course involved climbing 16 000 vertical metres.

Rona McGaffin, Stanford Lake College marketer said as great as the race was, it did not come without its challenges.

“The duo suffered mechanical setbacks as well as illness that are suspected to have been caused by the dust. Even during the difficult times the team kept going to complete the race, knowing that they were doing it for charity,” she said.

She further said the team raised R45 000 for the Dream an’ Do Foundation, which is a non-profit charity organisation.

The Dream an’ Do Foundation offers less privileged children an opportunity to get involved in environmental conservation and various outdoor adventure sports.
