POLOKWANE – Jason van Jaarsveld (19) is a gamer who boasts an astounding amount of talent.
Jason started playing games from the age of 15 years when his stepbrother, Jonathon Vreugdenburg, introduced him to the gaming world. Soon after it was clear that Jason was hooked on gaming and was extremely good at it.
He was especially good at Call of Duty, which is a very popular first-person video game. He said his other favourite game was League of Legends, which is a multi-player online battle arena video game. League of Legends is also currently the most popular video game in the world.
Jason further said he played for a team called PewPew Academy, which took part in the 2012 Rage Gaming Expo in Pretoria for the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 championship, but the team fell out in the third round. He said PewPew Academy was his favourite team to play for because they worked very well together and were like brothers to each other.
Jason later went to the Rage Gaming Expo again but only to play for fun in the Local Area Network games (Lan). He also competed in the Duo Gaming League for Call of Duty and took part in the Muurprop 100 Man Lan in Polokwane were he and his team, the Call of Duty Squad, had won for the past three consecutive years.
This outstanding gamer was also sponsored by Roccat South Africa, who gave him the PC he is currently using, a Roccat XMG P722.
He plays games every day and is participating in the Duo Gaming League for the League of Legends, with his team, The Element of Chaos.
Speaking about people he admired, Jason said he looked up to South African cricket captain AB de Villiers. “AB always keeps his head up even through defeat, and that’s what I love about him.”
He said he would love to have a computer that could play all the games and he would truly like to become a professional gamer. “I love gaming a lot, and to become a processional gamer would be amazing,” Jason said.
