Players revel in classic golf at tourney

The Polokwane Golf Club once again hosted the Baobab Classic golf tournament, which started last Thursday and ended on Saturday.

POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Golf Club once again hosted the Baobab Classic golf tournament, which started last Thursday and ended on Saturday.

This was the eighth year that the club hosted this golf tournament, in which 140 golfers competed. It is held over a six-month period.
The tournament kicked off with a fourball alliance, the second day of the challenge was the captain’s knock-out challenge, while the last day of the tournament was played in the individual stableford format.
The team made up of Zipho Ngobeni, Aaron Segwapa, Freddy Greaver and Teddy Mathebula were the overall winners of the tournament with 121,1 points. They walked away with a floating trophy and golf bags. In second place was the team made up of Piet du Toit, Llewellyn Prenzler, Dirk Visagie and Piet Bronkhorst with 117,6 points. The team made up of Joas Legodi, Pat Molepo, Adam Milanzi and Charles Mdluli were in third place with 114,2 points.
Bronkhorst was named the Baobab Classic individual stableford winner with 88,25 points. He was also named the best golfer of the tournament.

Day 1 – fourball alliance:
• Danie Bouwer Jnr won the prize for the longest drive at the fifth hole.
• Johan Geldenhuys won the prize for the longest drive at the 18th hole.
• Glen Wynne won the prize for nearest to the pin at the 16th hole.
• Adam Milanzi won the prize for nearest to the pin for two at the third hole.
• Ivan Henrico won the prize for longest drive with a cricket bat.
• Anton van Wyk, Louis le Roux, Jan Nel and Clinton Kinnear are the winners of the PG ball with 47 points.
Team results:
1. Pieter du Toit, Llewellyn Prenzler, Dirk Visagie and Piet Bronkhorst with 99 points.
2. Anton van Wyk, Louis le Roux, Jan Nel and Clinton Kinnear with 98 points on a count-in.
3. Nic Notley, Chris Binneman, Johan Moolman and Carel Swart with 98 points on a count-out.
Day 2 – Captain’s knock-out:
• Johan Geldenhuys won the prize for the longest drive at the seventh hole.
• Tossie van der Merwe won the prize for nearest to the pin at the fourth hole.
• Ivan Henrico won the prize for nearest to the pin at the eight hole.
• Hein Viljoen won the prize for nearest to the pin at the 11th hole.
• Teddy Brown won the prize for nearest to the pin at the 16th hole.
Winners:
1. Adam Milanzi and Charles Mdluli with 50 points.
2. Morné Myburg and Kobus Marnewick with 48 points on a count-in.
3. Jannie Bronkhorst and Theo Allison with 48 points on a count-out.
Day 3 – individual stableford:
• Freddy Greaver won the prize for the longest drive at the fifth hole.
• Johan Mool-man won the prize for nearest to the pin at the eight hole.
• Tony Plaatjies won the prize for nearest to the pin at the 11th hole.
• Jannie Bronkhorst won the prize for nearest to the pin for two at the 18th hole.
• Karl Enslin won the prize for the longest drive at the 17th hole.

Baobab Classic individual winners:
1. Piet Bronkhorst with 42 points on a count-in.
2. Thys de Kock with 42 points on a count-out.
3. Kobus Marnewick with 41 points.
4. Francois Hartlief with 40 points on a count-in.
5. Dirk Visagie with 40 points on a count-out.
6. Wian Marx with 40 points on a count-out.

Baobab Classic auction team winners:
1. Kuben Moodley, Musa Nkosi, Ray Martin and Rowen Chetty.
