POLOKWANE – Parents, swimming enthusiasts and swimmers gathered at the Hoërskool Pietersburg swimming pools on Monday to wish 13 swimmers from Eagar Aquatics Club the best of luck ahead of the Level 3 South African Junior Swimming Championships, which will be held in Port Elizabeth from March 12 to 16.
They also wished swimmers who will compete in Level 1 and Level 2 regional qualifiers the best of luck for these galas.
Eight Eagar swimmers will participate in the Level 1 regional qualifiers in Germiston from March 27 to 29, while eight swimmers will compete in the Level 2 regional qualifiers also in Germiston from March 19 to 22.
According to Rob Anderson, Eagar Aquatics Club chairperson, the swimmers had already started with preparations for the championships.
“We are ready for the championships and the swimmers have been training very hard to enhance their skills and tactics.
“They will leave a mark at the Level 3 Junior Swimming Championships,” said Anderson.
The head coach, Douggie Eagar, said they finished in the top 20 during last year’s championships and aimed for a top five spot this year.
He said the swimmers were very committed and strove for the best results.
The swimmers each received a sports bag, which was sponsored by the Eagar Aquatics Club committee.
Eagar said the bags would form part of the team’s kit.
