Transfer window may slam shut on City

POLOKWANE City FC might have to sell midfielder, Mothusi Gopane during the transfer window or risk losing the player when his contract expires at the end of June.

POLOKWANE – POLOKWANE City FC might have to sell midfielder, Mothusi Gopane during the transfer window or risk losing the player when his contract expires at the end of June.

Gopane has signed a pre-contract with Supersport United, and if City FC does not clinch a deal with Matsatsantsa a Pitori before Friday, Gopane will join the Pretoria club on a free transfer.

United released a statement confirming that Gopane had signed a pre-contract with them.

“Supersport United has signed pre-contracts with Polokwane City midfielder, Mothusi Gopane and Platinum Stars left back, Luvolwethu Mpeta. The players will join their Matsatsantsa teammates on July 1,” the statement read in part. Gopane played a pivotal role in Polokwane City’s promotion to the Premier Soccer League, but saw limited game time in the elite league.

This season, the 22-year-old has been used in the Multichoice Diski Challenge team and is the top goal scorer, a performance that attracted United coach, Gordon Igesund. Supersport United earlier this year signed Kaizer Chiefs striker, Kingston Nkhatha on a pre-contract, but later secured his early release and will use him when the league resumes in February.

Attempts to reach Polokwane City chief operations officer, Costa Bellos drew blank by the time of going to print as his phone rang unanswered.
