POLOKWANE – Lebowakgomo High School’s sports grounds will be transformed into a battlefield of sorts on December 26 when the sixth annual Heroes Softball Tournament will be played here.

This tournament is the brain child of the Lebowakgomo Wild Beasts Softball Club and is played every year to honour club members who have died.

Eight softball teams will battle it out on the diamond to win the title that is currently in the hands of Moletlane Texas who won the tournament last year.

Four teams from Gauteng will travel to Limpopo to take part in this tournament. They are Attridgeville Jets, Vaal University of Technology softball team, Mamelodi Pitbulls and Flames Softball Club.

The other teams that will take part in this tournament are the the hosts, Lebowakgomo Wild Beasts Softball Club, as well as Moletlane Texas, Mahwelereng Spikes and Mankweng Pioneers.

Wild Beasts representative, Vincent Seteno, says this tournament is regarded as the largest and most important softball tournament in Limpopo.

“Limpopo’s softball leagues have all disbanded. We decided to host the Heroes Softball Tournament to keep the sport alive,” he says.

“Wild Beasts Softball Club will turn 35 next year and to celebrate this milestone, we want to make next year’s tournament bigger and better.”

Seteno says the Heroes Softball Tournament is very popular and Wild Beasts will continue to host it in the future.

This year’s tournament will honour Polelo Masola, Tlanki Mmorwa, Koketso Matlala and Bradley Selopa.

Seteno encourages softball fans to bring their cooler boxes and to enjoy this exciting tournament with them.

“Come and celebrate with us and wath the beautiful game of softball. Expect to see incredible action and quality performances.”
