Highlight 2014: Pataki, Johnston take Limpopo Mid Am titles

The Limpopo Mid Amateur Open and Closed Championships took place at the Polokwane Golf Club on Sunday.

POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Mid Amateur Open and Closed Championships took place at the Polokwane Golf Club

With a tough field and more than 60 golfers teeing off from all over the country, it was local golfer Joas Legodi who took the early lead with 68 nett points after the first round, followed by Martin Pieterse, Norman Raad and Niel Fusedale with 69 nett points.

However, after the second round, Cameron Johnston from Western Province was the overall winner of the open championships with 143 points gross. Johnston proved that consistency was key by scoring 71 in the first round and 72 in the second round.

Another local golfer, Malebana Pataki took second place in the open championships with 147 points gross and also won the closed championships. He scored 73 in the first round and 74 in the second round.

Another local golfer, Aaron Segwapa had the best nett score on the day with 144 points followed by Niel Rathmann, scoring 146 points.

“It is always an honour to host the Mid Am’s and we would like to thank all the players for travelling so far for this event. We hope to see you again next year,” said the president of the Limpopo Golf Union, Niko Koster.
