Baroka plagued by inconsistency

CHANGING the club's nickname from Bakgakga to Moshate has not helped Baroka FC to rekindle the flame that saw them miss the promotional play-offs by a whisker last season.

CHANGING the club’s nickname from Bakgakga to Moshate has not helped Baroka FC to rekindle the flame that saw them miss the promotional play-offs by a whisker last season.

Since the beginning of the current season, Baroka FC has been blowing hot and cold, but coach Sello Chokoe believes their 4-0 thumping of Santos on Saturday was just the tonic the players needed to regain their confidence.

Baroka beat Witbank Spurs 1-0 last Saturday but went down 2-1 to current log leaders Jomo Cosmos at the Peter Mokaba Stadium last Wednesday afternoon and a resounding victory over Santos this past weekend showed how inconstant the club has been. After the loss against Cosmos, Chokoe confesses that his players missed their captain Gift Motupa who was injured during training. His influence was clearly visible when Moshate put four goals past Santos.

“At times we have been our own enemies. We create many clear-cut goal-scoring chances and fail to convert them. We are not playing bad, not at all. We impose our game plan to opponents and control most of the games but somehow we end up losing matches. When we do win we struggle to take the momentum to the next match but we are working on our inconsistency”, says Chokoe.

Baroka FC are lying sixth on the National First Division (NFD) log with 17 points from 13 matches.

Their last three matches before the Christmas break will be a trip to Cape Town for a duel with Vasco da Gama on Saturday, a home fixture against struggling Maluti FET College on December 13, before summing up the year with another home fixture against Royal Eagles on December 21.
