Charity golf day fun for all participants

The 33rd annual Silicon Smelters/Round Table 22 charity golf day was a huge success, with 200 golfers teeing off on Saturday.

POLOKWANE – The 33rd annual Silicon Smelters/Round Table 22 charity golf day was a huge success, with 200 golfers teeing off on Saturday.

In the betterball competition, Thys de Kock and Barend Jacobs from Galactic Auto won first place with 50 points. Arno Wienand and Hennie Schulenburg from The Oil Shoppe took second place with 49 points.

Karel du Bruin, Jacques van Schalkwyk, Nick Botha and Theuns Vermeulen sponsored by Control Instruments won the team competition with 93 points.

The team from Polo-kwane Wholesalers consis-ting of Jose Alfonso, Khalid Tayob, Dudley Venner and Len Baker were in second place with 88 points.

Sean Pappas, Jacques Scheepers, Phillip de Lange and Isaac Kgafela won prizes in the nearest to the pin competition, while De Lange also took home a prize for the longest drive on number 17.

At the prize-giving Silicon Smelters distributed funds to charity organisations in Polokwane, including R85 000 to Round Table 22 to redistribute to charity. A donation was also made to Help in Every Burden.

Round Table 22 also donated R10 000 each to Hoop vir Kinders and the Association for People with Disability.

“We would like to thank Round Table 22, Polokwane Golf Club for the facilities, and all the sponsors who contributed to this charity event, without you it would not have been possible,” said Jan Aucamp, organiser of the day. Aucamp also thanked all the golfers and teams who made sure they never missed this special event.

“In the 24 years that I have organised this golf day, many teams have never missed a single year and that means a lot to us,” he said.
