Monama now a City FC man

POLOKWANE City FC acquired the services of former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder, Raymond Monama

POLOKWANE City FC acquired the services of former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder, Raymond Monama, and he might feature when City FC face-off against his former team, the defending champions in the Absa Premier Soccer League (PSL), at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

City FC general manager, Costa Bellos, confirmed that they have completed Monama’s transfer on a one year contract. “Everybody knows Monama is a good player,” he said.

The midfielder, who only played six minutes in Sundowns colours before he was loaned out to Pretoria University, where he starred in 14 matches, was tipped to join Mpumalanga Black Aces.

After the deal fell through, the 25-year-old opted for a move to Polokwane.

The Seshego-born left-footed winger made his name playing for Black Leopards, and when Lidoda Duvha was relegated to the National First Division, Monama, Rodney Ramagalela and Tiyani Mabunda, joined Sundowns.

City FC’s new coach, Kosta Papic, said he was ready to work with Monama, but would not reveal if he would feature against Pitso Mosimane’s side this coming weekend. Papic himself will be on the bench for only his second match after leaving Chippa United under a cloud. His first Chippa match ended in a 2-2 draw against Amazulu.
