Leopards, Baroka do battle

BOTH Black Leopards and Baroka FC have had the worst possible start to the season.

BOTH Black Leopards and Baroka FC have had the worst possible start to the season.

After they narrowly missed out on the promotion to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) last season, Lidoda Duvha are yet to register a win four games into the current season, while Baroka have managed just one.

The two struggling National First Division teams will lock horns again in the Limpopo derby at the Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Leopards are going into the match fresh from a 2-0 loss against Witbank Spurs on Sunday, while their bitter rivals come from salvaging one home point against Highlands Park.

Baroka FC head coach, Sello Chokoe, said his team would be ready to collect their second three points of the season and warned his players not to waste possession.

“Our decision making was poor against Highlands Park and we need to correct that when we play against Black Leopards.

Highlands Park captain, Simphiwe Tshabalala’s pace proves to be too much for Baroka FC duo of Hlabane Kutumela and Thabiso Kutumela. Highlands Park and Baroka FC drew 1-1.

“There were instances where we stayed on the ball too much and gave away possession too cheaply. If we avoid that mistake against Leopards, we will come back victorious,” Chokoe said.

Lidoda Duvha caretaker coach, Ashwin Sutton, said he expected no favours from anyone and that his players would put their home ground advantage to good use.

“We deserved to win the match against Spurs and if we take the same form we had in that second half into the derby, we will win,” said Sutton.

Meanwhile, Lidoda Duvha has denied rumours that they have parted ways with their Irish coach, Sean Connor before he could sit on the bench even once.

Connor is yet to assume his duties due to work permit issues, but Leopards spokesperson, Barry Ramunenyiwa, said Connor was still their coach and he would assume his duties as soon as his work permit was sorted out.

“In the meantime, Ashwin Sutton and Solly Luvhengo are in charge.”
