Bafana and Congo CAF game in city

Safa has confirmed that the state of the art Peter Mokaba Sports Complex will host a clash of the heavyweights when Bafana Bafana play against the Congo Brazzaville national team in a 2015

THE South African Football Association (Safa) has confirmed that the state of the art Peter Mokaba Sports Complex will host a clash of the heavyweights when Bafana Bafana play against the Congo Brazzaville national team in a 2015 Orange Africa Cup of Nations (CAF) qualifier match on October 15.

According to Safa spokesperson, Mathlomola Morake, the tournament will be played in Morocco next year.

Morake said the all-important clash in Polokwane would follow only five days after the two teams would have met at the Congolese coastal city of Point Noire on 10 October.

He said the Point Noire match would be Bafana Bafana’s third in the qualifier matches following clashes with Sudan, whom they crushed 3-0 in their own backyard and a 0-0 draw with Nigeria.

Bafana Bafana coach Ephraim “Shakes” Mashaba, who is expected to announce his squad for the Congo clashes next week, has already made his excitement clear over the fact that his team will play in Polokwane.

“The people of Limpopo have never disappointed when Bafana Bafana played in Polokwane and we expect another bumper crowd on October 15,” he said.

The match is expected to attract thousands of Limpopo football lovers including those fans who always travel with the national team from across the country.

The visit is also expected to boast the local economy as this match is viewed as one of the biggest matches of the series.

At the moment, after two rounds of the CAF, Bafana Bafana is second in their group with four points from two games while Congo is leading the pack with six points following wins over Sudan and Nigeria.
