Winners Park win Mpho Nakana tourney

WINNERS Park FC from Belleview village in Bolobedu outside Modjadjiskloof was crowned the winner or this year's Mpho Nakana Soccer Tournament

WINNERS Park FC from Belleview village in Bolobedu outside Modjadjiskloof was crowned the winner or this year’s Mpho Nakana Soccer Tournament, with the finals having been played at Mohlabaneng sports ground on Sunday.

This after they beat Sedibeng Fighters FC 5-4 during a penalty shootout which came after the two teams played to a 1-1 draw during official time.

Winners Park scored four of their penalties to their opponent’s three penalty goals.

Each of the teams received prize money and and new soccer balls. Winners Park received the first prize of R4 000. This was followed by Sedibeng Fighters in second place with a prize of R3 000.

In third place was Mamokgadi FC, who received a prize of R1 200, while Rapho FC from Ga-Kgapane came fourth and received R800 prize money.

The tournament was organised by the ANC Youth League (ANCYL)’s Lebaka branch in an effort to draw young people away from the streets where they ended up being involved in criminal activities. According to ANCYL Lebaka branch chairperson, Walter Maduna Ratheledi, the event was also organised as part of Heritage Month celebrations.

The tourney was also sponsored by various businesses and individuals including Stephen Malo a Botsheba Sefofa, Thwala Bus Services, Reuben Mukola and Greater Letaba mayor Godfrey City Modjadji.

Sixteen teams participated, with the top four teams playing the final games over the weekend.
