POLOKWANE – Swimming South Africa has selected Christoff Ras (17) of Eagar Aquatics Club to be part of the national team that will represent South Africa at the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region VI u/20 Youth Games.

The tournament will be held in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe from December 10 to 14.

According to Douggie Eagar, Eagar Aquatics Club head coach, this is the first time Christoff has been chosen to swim for South Africa. “Christoff is only 17 years old, but I believe in him, and I am sure he will make the country proud. No one can intimidate him as he is much faster and has confidence,” says Eagar.

Christoff was part of eight Eagar Aquatics Club swimmers who participated in the South Africa Short Course Championships in Pietermaritzburg from August 7 to 10. He made it to the B-division finals in the 200 m breaststroke, 400 m freestyle and 200 m individual medley. He also participated in the Swimming South Africa National Level 3 Age Group Championships, which are regarded as the official South African AUSC Regional VI u/20 Youth Games swimming trials.

Eagar says he expects Christoff to do well during the AUSC tournament.

“Christoff is committed and hard working, and I have faith in him. I am sure he will put our province and country on the map, and hopefully return with an award,” says Eagar.
