THE South African women’s soccer team, Banyana Banyana played against Tanzania at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday, where they beat the Tanzanians 6-1.

Portia Modise’s first attempt at a goal with Shiwe Nogwanya inside the box was intercepted by the Tanzanian goalkeeper, Fatima Omary Jawadu, in the 10th minute.

The Tanzanians came back five minutes later and found the back of the net after a well taken set-piece outside the box by their captain, Sophia Edward Mwasikili.

The home side levelled the score in the 21st minute when Nogwanya found the back of the net after a scramble in the box and that brought Banyana back into the match.

Leandra Smeda increased Banyana’s tally through a header from a corner kick just before half-time to bring the score to 2-1.

After half-time, the South African team scored their third goal through defender, Janine Van Wyk, in the 53rd minute.
