New cricket academy opens in city

Top notch cricket coaching is available from the newest branch of The Cricket Academy, which was launched at Mitchell House on August 11.

POLOKWANE – Top notch cricket coaching is available from the newest branch of The Cricket Academy, which was launched at Mitchell House on August 11.

The Cricket Academy was founded in Cape Town in 2005 and sees over 250 players a week during the summer months in Cape Town.

“We currently offer professional coaching at two facilities in Cape Town, and will coach players of all abilities from gr. R to 12 at Mitchell House,” says the founder of the academy, Gio Colussi.

Four new artificial nets are available for training and coaching at Mitchell House and players can receive private, shared private and mini coaching from the academy.

The academy boasts success stories such as Michael Rippon, who has represented Sussex County Cricket Club, The Cape Cobras and The Netherlands, Grant Edmeades, who has represented South Africa and Western Pro-vince and over 50 players who have represented junior provincial teams.

Polokwane’s coaches include Henk Prins-loo, a Cricket South Africa level 2 coach who coached Limpopo u/11 and u/12 teams for 17 years and Lloyd Ngwana, a Cricket South Africa level 1 coach.

Lloyd has been hard at work to develop cricket in Giyani, as well as coaching at schools in Limpopo.

Ignatius Rorisang Matsiela, will be doing his Cricket South Africa level 1 course and currently coaches cricket at Mitchell House.
