Rocks on the market

ONE of the three professional soccer teams in the Mopani district, Blue Rocks Football Club, is now up for sale.

ONE of the three professional soccer teams in the Mopani district, Blue Rocks Football Club, is now up for sale.

The owner of the Mawa Block 12-based team, Refilwe Ramothwala who is popularly known as Ba Kgatje, confirmed that the team, which plays in the ABC Motsepe League, is up for grabs at the right price.

Ramothwala said a lack of sports facilities and his desire to venture into other initiatives prompted him to sell the franchise.

“Due to the lack of sports facilities that are in the league’s accepted standards in the Bolobedu area, the team have to travel at least 80km to play home games,” Ramothwala explained.

He said the other reason was that, once he ventured into other initiatives, he would not be able to give the team the attention that it deserved.

Ramothwala was reluctant to disclose the figure he wanted to sell the team for, saying it was a matter between the seller and the prospective buyer.

Team manager, Puseletso Ramothwala, said the team, who were the hot favourites of the league last season, ended their ABC Motsepe League 2013/14 season campaign in third position on the log standings.

She said Blue Rocks FC came into being in 2008 after they bought the status of the SAB League side, Gaza Black Rovers.

The team played in the SAB league for two seasons before they won promotion to the ABC Motsepe League, formerly known as the Vodacom Promotional Motsepe League.

The ABC Motsepe League carried a first prize of R1 million to the winning team in the 2013/14 season, of which R200 000 had to be used for development purposes. The runner up prize was some R500 000 of which R100 000 had to be used for development purposes.

Prospective buyers can contact Refilwe Ramothwala at 073 293 9794 or Puseletso Ramothwala at 078 915 5119.
