YOUNG defender, Thami Maluma says he is confident he will be selected for the provincial team which will play in the Inter-Provincial Championships from March 31.

The provincial u/17 squad will be selected on Sunday, when aspiring youngsters will be out to impress coaches at the Noordelikes Rugby Stadium.

Maluma made the cut to play for the Capricorn district u/17 team, which was selected on Saturday. Born and bred in Jane Furse in the Sekhukhune district, the 16-year-old has a gold medal which he won in the McDonald Tournament playing for Meridian College.

This utility player is now in the books of Limpopo Sports School of Excellence and has been captaining the u/17 division for some time now.

Talking to CV about his promising football career, Maluma says he is proud to be part of the Capricorn district squad and has his eyes set on the provincial team. “I am confident that I will be selected to play for the province. I enjoy playing football as a defender, but I also score goals when I am fielded as a striker,” he says.

Maluma will hope to dish out a performance which won him the MacDonald u/14 Player of the Tournament two years ago. “Limpopo has so many talented players and there is no time to relax and think you are the best. The coaches at Limpopo Sports School of Excellence always emphasise that we must never be complacent and encourage us to give it our all whenever we play and that is what I will do on Sunday.”
