MGA gymnasts excel at invitational

Fifteen young gymnasts from Marshall Gymnastics Academy (MGA) competed at this weekend’s Eldo Stars invitational competition at the Matsport Centre in Eldoraigne, Centurion.

MOKOPANE – They pitted their skills against gymnasts from Limpopo, Gauteng and Mpumalanga.“The MGA gymnasts performed very well,” says MGA coach and Limpopo Gymnastics Hub Leader Richard Marshall.

“We are proud of their efforts and it is always good to see how they develop. He adds that gymnastics is growing as a sport in South Africa. “Gymnastics is excellent for a child’s overall development, including their coordination, fine motor skills and muscle development. This is why the Gymnastics Federation of South Africa has decided to establish hubs in various provinces to develop the sport.”

The results for level one saw Mia Botha take third place on vault and U-bar with a silver average. Christine Lee obtained a gold average. Kamogelo Mohuba excelled and came first overall with a gold average (second place on vault, second on beam, first on floor).

Chanté de Beer was third overall with a silver average and came third on vault, first on beam and third on floor. Resegofetse Mogwera came second on floor and received a bronze average along with Leigh van Staden and Abbygail Smith.

The level two results saw Maya Boshoff finish second overall with a bronze average (first on floor, second on bar and beam and third on vault). Alexa Watkins obtained gold and a first place on beam and second on floor saw her finishing third overall.

Lize van Zyl won second place on bar and finished with a silver average. Natanja Koch came third on floor with a silver average and McKayla Potgieter obtained bronze.The boys level two saw Gys van den Heever finish second overall with a gold average (third on floor, first on vault, third on P-bar and third on high bar).

Darren Foss finished third overall with a gold average and came second on vault and third on P-bar.
Jayden Enslin achieved gold overall and came first on vault and second on P-bar.
