New Bakenberg Cluster champs
The fierce u/19 soccer - and u/15 netball teams of the Bakenberg Cluster battled it out for the winning title in the Kay Motsepe Bakenberg Cluster Championship.
MOKOPANE – The championship was held at TT Cholo Stadium in Ga Mathapo village recently.
After a tough competition the u/19 soccer team of Mammopi Secondary School, proved that they are the best team on the field and claimed the crown as Bakenberg Cluster champions with the netball team of Bakenberg High School also clinching the title as champions on the day.
On the soccer field the morning kicked off with a match between the teams from Mammopi Secondary School in the Baltimore Circuit and the team from Kgaobotlhale Secondary School in Bakenberg South. When the whistle blew at half-time the score was still 0-0 and so the second half took off at a fast pace.
The first goal was netted in the 55th minute by a player from Mammopi and the team added two more goals after that, reigning victorious with a final score of 3-0.
In the second match the team from Paledi Secondary School from Matlalane Circuit took on the team from George Langa in Bakenberg North. George Langa won the game 1-0.
Mmaopi faced George Langa in the final and dominated the field and won the trophy.
While the skilled soccer players showed their mettle on the field, the u/15 netball players proved that they are a force to be reckoned with on the court.
Mapopani beat the u/15 team from Matopa Secondary School from Bakenberg South in the first match 10-8.
Beauty Hlako of Mammopi scored eight goals and Doby Lebepe scored two of the winning goals.
The second match was between the team of Bakenberg High School and Pirwana Secondary School. Bakenberg won 17-14.
After a brutal final between Mammopi and Bakenberg, Bakenberg reigned undefeated and clinched the championship title.
