Two local fencers set to travel to Egypt to represent South Africa
The two fencer siblings, Anokha and Rahul van Manen, qualified to participate in the Junior Fencing World Championships.
Two fencers from the Sello Maduma Fencing Academy have qualified to participate in the Junior Fencing World Championships in Egypt at the beginning of next month.
The two fencers ranked first and second on the continent after participating in various national championships before the lockdown.
The two fencer siblings, Anokha and Rahul van Manen, are the current sportsman and woman of the year in fencing in the province.
Sello says the lockdown might have prevented them from participating in any matches but the team has been practicing hard since last year, when they were permitted to do so.
“We have been preparing hard in terms of fitness and physical ability. “The two fencers are in a decent form and we are quite confident that they will reach the targets we have set for them and those they have set for themselves.”
