Promising Seshego karatekas to undergo provincial grading session

Promising young karatekas of Seshego, Phenyo Mahapa, Cuba Makgoba and Retang Madia will undergo a provincial Kyo grading session at Ngwaoko Ramahlodi Sports Complex on Saturday.

Peter Malatji, who is their master and mentor, said they were supposed to grade the karatekas last year but had to postpone the event due to the strict measures of the national lockdown.

“We are happy that they will finally undergo the Kyo grading which is a physical and technical test of students who have been training karate for two months and longer, from white to second brown belt.”

He also added that Shihan Happy Prince Gumede, from KwaZulu-Natal, will be conducting the grading. “Gumede holds a sixth dan black belt in Kyokushin, and he is also a qualified doctor. We must point out that the lockdown has been tough on these karatekas, they have since enjoyed returning to the dojo in preparation for the grading and other upcoming events in 2021.”

“We were also relieved to start teaching karate since the lockdown level was moved to level one.

“The event will start at 07:00, for a three-hour training and assessment session that will see 30 students being graded. The students are ready for the event and we are calling all members of the community to come to support the karatekas.”
