Young shooter aims to become world’s best

Young aspiring shooter, Migael Moulder broke the national u/12 record during the North West Open shooting event held at Westfalia High School in Klerkdorp last week.

The 11-year-old, Gr 5 Oosskool learner beat seven shooters from various provinces to amass 380 points out of 400, to win the gold medal. He also received a trophy for his endeavors.

According to his mother, Sané Moulder, Migael obliterated the record of 372 points out of 400 set in January this year by Zelna Grové from KwaZulu-Natal.

Migael who is a member of Moulder Luggeweer Akademie (MLA), owned by his father in Polokwane says he wants to become one of best shooters in the world. “I love sport with all my heart. I play rugby and I also swim at school but I love shooting more. I draw a lot of inspiration from my brother, he is also a shooter. I want to create my own legacy. I want to win medals and make my family proud. I want to see myself participating in international competitions.”

He stressed that he aims to break his father’s record of 398 out of 400 in the prone, when his father was shooting with a .22 rifle during his school days.

He learned how to shoot at the age of nine years and he aspires to become a policeman or join the army.

“I want to become a soldier and protect people.”

Sané said they want him to focus more on shooting because of its benefits.

“This is the sporting code that teaches young people discipline, respect, safety and how to stay focused.

We are happy for him and we wish him all the best in his upcoming events.”

At MLA there are various other shooters who participated in various other disciplines as well:

Marzé Becker – silver for 20 3P precision.

Hanré Willemse – bronze for u/20 10m standing precision.

Hanco Willemse – silver for u/12 prone.
