Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila Football Club appointed former Zimbabwe Premier League giants Highlanders and Ngezi Platinun coach Erol Akbay as their new head coach last Friday.
The Netherlands-born mentor takes over from Moma Medic who vacated his position in September.
Akbay started coaching in 1997 where he started as a trainer for youth development at Heracles Amelo Football Club in the second division of the Dutch league. He spent six years at the club before being appointed head coach of second division side HVV Hengelo for the 2002-2003 season and led them to a fifth position finish.
He changed scenery when he relocated to Barbaros as a technical advisor from 2008 to 2011. He then returned to HVV Hengelo in 2011 as head coach and stayed for three seasons.
His three years at the club saw him achieving a seventh place finish in his season and fifth in both the second and third seasons.
Chief executive officer of the club, Sello Chokoe said Akbay’s mandate was to promote the club to the Premier Soccer League (PSL). “We are pleased to have him at the club. We were impressed by his credentials. We have been in the lower division for quite a while now and need to move up to the PSL. I am convinced he would help us achieve that goal.”
