The Solly Malatsi (SM) Legacy Foundation football tournament promises yet another exciting and an intense contest when 32 soccer teams battle it out in the dusty sport fields of Madiga Junior Chiefs in Ga-Dikgale Village from 9 to 31 August.
Teams interested in participating in the fourth annual SM Legacy Foundation tournament are encouraged to affiliate as soon as possible in order to secure a spot and stand a chance to win sme of the amazing prizes at stake. The R2 500 affiliation fee gives a team a fighting chance for a slice of the R100 000 cash prize at stake. The winning team will take home R50 000 in cash, the winner’s trophy, gold medals and a new soccer kit. R25 000, silver medals and a kit await the runner-up while the third place winner will walk away with R15 000, bronze medals and kit while the fourth place finisher gets R10 000 and a soccer kit.
Last year’s tournament made for huge excitement when a historic and lengthy penalty shoot-out determined the champions. Makotopong Giant Aces FC beat Zora FC 9-8 on penalties following a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes of intense battle.
A combination of clinical penalties and some brilliant saves by both goalkeepers meant each side took 13 penalties until Zora FC missed their 13th shoot out.
Players, coaches and supporter also stand a chance of winning extraordinary individual prizes for being the goalkeeper of the tournament, best defender, best midfielder, top goal scorer, overall best player, best supporter of the tournament and the Chairman’s Flair-Play Award which is won by a team that displayed great sportsmanship both on and off the field.
SM Legacy Foundation Chairperson Solly Malatsi said “We have been forced to extend the tournament from 16 teams to 32 because of the overwhelming interest shown by teams after the success of last year’s tournament. We look forward to welcoming a number of new teams from outside Polokwane who have already pre-booked their participation.”
Teams can join the tournament by depositing a total affiliation fee to SM Legacy Sports Tournament NPC, FNB cheque account number 62711941006 and email proof of payment to smlegacyfoundation@gmail.com or WhatsApp it to 083 513 7862.
