In excess of 140 cyclists from 22 countries and four continents have entered the second edition of the Tour De Limpopo cycle race that is set to take place from 14 to 18 May.
The four day contest will commence in Bela-Bela from where riders will race towards Tzaneen and eventually end in Polokwane.
The most coveted titles to be contested by individual cyclists and teams are the general classification category, Sprinter’s Jersey, King of the Mountain, best young rider and most aggressive rider, as well as overall team classification. Chief Executive Officer of Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA), Nomasonto Ndlovu was quoted to have said: “We are happy that the race has attracted a huge number of cyclists this year. Last year we had nearly 115 cyclists and we want to see the race attracting more in the upcoming years.”
Ndlovu announced that they had re-entered into an agreement with Cycling South Africa to host the event for the next two years in the province. “Adventure Tourism is another fast growing segment in Limpopo Province’ and it attracts a high volume of cyclist in mountain biking as well as 4×4 off road enthusiasts from all over South Africa and beyond. This finds resonance with LTA’s marketing strategy, particularly on the sport tourism front. This is mainly due to the provinces scenic beauty provided by the topography, this event will help grow the provinces sport tourism profile,” Ndlovu reportedly commented.
