MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture Thandi Moraka has congratulated provincial soccer clubs, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila and Black Leopards for reaching the last 16 round of the Nedbank Cup.
Leopards caused a major upset in football circles when they eliminated the 2011 winners, Orlando Pirates from the competition by beating them 5-4 at Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday evening.
Venda outfit Tshakhuma, a National First Division (NFD) and novices in the competition walloped City 2-1 at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium last Wednesday to advance to the next round.
“We wish them well in the next round of the competition. Black Leopards played well in front of their supporters and there was no way they could disappoint. The two clubs showed their true mettle and we would love to see one of them lifting the cup after the final match,” Moraka said.
