Moletjie born soccer star, Kgaogelo Mapemba Sekgota recently signed a one and a half year contract with Portuguese football giants Vitória de Setúbal.
Sekgota, 21, is only the third soccer player from South Africa to play for the Portuguese outfit. He follows the likes out Bafana Bafana legends Eric Tinkler and Kermit Erasmus who plied their trade at the club years ago.
Sekgota who earlier played for Polokwane United Football Club striker joins Vitória de Setúbal from Lithuania based club Stumbras Kaunas.
He has scored two goals and registered four assists in 32 games for the Stumbras Kaunas and he has won the 2017 Lithuanian League Cup.
Sekgota reportedly expressed his delight with his new prospects and said he hoped to help the team reach its goals.
His former coach at Polokwane United Football, Bally Smart who is also his business manager said he was pleased to see Sekgota’s football career flourishing. “When I discovered him in 2012 I told him that he was going to be a star. He was one of the most disciplined and hardworking players at Polokwane United and many young players can learn a lot from him. He started playing football on the dusty streets on Mmotong village near Moletjie and he is playing in Europe now.
My message to young aspiring soccer players especially those from rural areas is that nothing is impossible, with hard work and dedication we can achieve all our dreams,” Smart said.
