Following their hard fought draw against 2016/17 Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions, Bidvest Wits Football Club at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday, Polokwane City Football Club is eager to defeat Free State Stars.
The two clubs will meet in their 18th match of the league to be played Goble Park Stadium in Free State on 2 February.
Chief operations officer Tincy Tema described the match as a must win. “We beat them 1-0 in the first round of the league and I think they want revenge. We can’t afford to lose this match while we have already dropped two crucial points against Wits. We still feel we could have beaten them but they are a quality side and leading the log,” Tema said.
He stressed that their last remaining 13 matches of the league won’t be easy given the competitiveness of the league. “We are in the second round. It is tough now, teams are fighting different battles. Some want top 8 finishes and some are fighting for relegation, so we can’t afford to falter. We will fight till the end” Tema remarked.
He praised their 36-year old captain, Jabu Maluleke who has been in fine form this season. The former Super Sport United midfielder was bestowed with the Man of the Match award for his heroics against Bidvest Wits and is one of the team leading goal scorers with three goals and nine assists. “He has been on top of his game since the first whistle of the season. He is an experienced campaigner, he works hard and he scores crucial goals for the team. He is good example to young players in the team and may he continue with the good form,” Tema said.
