After an early morning 5 km walk and despite a slow start on the actual programme Limpopo Police hosted a successful Provincial Sports Day at the Seshego Stadium on Friday.
The programme saw male and female officers participating in among others netball, soccer, volleyball, rugby, chess, golf and a potjiekos competition.
In her welcoming address Deputy Provincial Commissioner responsible for human Resources Christine Morakaladi indicated that the sports day was a tradition in the province to showcase what officers have to offer not just in terms of talent but also in cuisine.
“Putting together this event proves the determination you have obtained throughout the years in this organisation. I have seen a lot of preparations take centre stage during the past weeks and I hope it was not time wasted away from work. The Provincial Commissioner Nneke Ledwaba cannot wait to experience the quality of sportsmanship that you have been honing when you were granted time out to practice,” she said.
Though she encouraged participants to enjoy themselves she warned that they are still Police and whatever they do will have consequences.
“We are all part of an organisation that practices restraint and discipline because of the nature of our work. We enforce the law and do not break it. With reference to the previous events of this nature we have enjoyed peacefully without any of us misbehaving. Keep it up,” Morakaladi said.
She added that the sports day is also established to improve skills, increase knowledge, to pursue physical excellence and to engage with oppositions in order to win accolades.
