Residents of Seshego and surrounds will join the rest of South Africa in celebrating Heritage Day in conjunction with the National Indigenous Games to be hosted by the Department of Sport and Recreation at Seshego Stadium from Sunday to 28 September.
Both events are set to bring together more than 7 000 people to celebrate the country’s diverse culture and aims to be a showcase of all that is truly South Africa’s indigenous offering in games, entertainment in music, fashion, arts and crafts as well as food.
The games will start with a street carnival departing from Ngoako Ramatlhodi Sports Complex on Sunday and ending at Seshego Stadium. There will also be traditional musical items by local and national artists at the stadium.
Daily game fixtures from Monday to 28 September will include teams from all provinces competing for national titles in lintonga, morabaraba, ncuva, kgati, driestokkies, jukskei, diketo, kho-kho and dibeke.
The Indigenous Games Festival’s programme is a strategic fit to the national department of sport’s objective of identifying underprofiled sporting codes and providing opportunities for the South African nation to take part in them.
