City FC at old Peter Mokaba

Polokwane City Football Club is excited by the prospect of playing their Premier Soccer League (PSL) home matches at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium starting from
15 September.
The 18 000 capacity stadium was closed in May for refurbishments and the team was obligated to use the new Peter Mokaba Stadium as an alternative venue.
They will return to the stadium on Saturday afternoon for a PSL clash against Free State Stars who defeated them 3-2 last season.
City midfielder, Edgar Manaka said they are glad to be back at their fortress and looking forward to win more games at the stadium. “This is our favourite stadium. We always get maximum points here, the pitch is good and the support is amazing,” Manaka said.
He added that their fixture against Free State Stars will always be a grudge match given the history of the two teams. “We are still to beat them in a league match. They have always given us problems and what is more they are now being coached by our former mentor, Luc Eymael who knows us very well. We are ready for the match and believe we will emerge victorious this time around,” added Manaka.
Spokesperson for Polokwane Municipality, Matshidiso Mothapo said they are also happy that the stadium will be able to host the official PSL matches. “It is good for the city and the football loving people in the province. The stadium was out of operation because there was a process to install a new higher capacity generator at the stadium. Unfortunately there was a delay of about a month or so that led to other fixture being diverted to the new stadium. The generator has been installed and the normal fixtures at the stadium will continue as planned.”
