Being a member of the South African Police Service (SAPS) requires a certain level of fitness but female officials attached to the service’s Provincial office, in celebration Women’s Month, went all out during their sports day last Friday.
Christina Morakaladi, deputy provincial commissioner, led the event which entailed a 5 km fun run, netball, soccer and an aerobics session, which was held at Polokwane rugby field.
Morakaladi said the event was also aimed at improving internal social cohesion. “Sport has proven in many instances that it has the power to unite even the worst of enemies. By learning to work together we expose ourselves to the positivity that comes with winning together. We need to create more opportunities like this where women gather to learn to work together,” she said.
She pointed out that, while fitness has been a part of policing for a long time, it was especially necessary for female members to maintain an active lifestyle for the sake of their wellbeing and in the light of their demanding schedules as well as career and life commitments.
