It was action aplenty recently at Polokwane Jukskei Club where more than 160 players from different schools in the province participated during the Limpopo Federation Schools Jukskei League matches.
The league accommodates primary and secondary schools and features A, B and C divisions. Seventeen teams from secondary and 23 from primary schools participated and according to the organiser, Anton Botha medals and floating trophies were at stake.
He explained that the league was played on a point system. Players and their respective schools pay an affiliation fee to be part of the league.
According to Botha, the sport is growing in the province but their major concern is a lack of financial assistance.
He indicated that jukskei teaches learners Mathematics, sportsmanship, tactics, team work and offers great exercise opportunities. He urged youths to consider taking up the code.
He concluded by saying this was the first leg of the league with the second part planned for commencing on 25 August.
He thanked the players, schools and parents for making the league a success.
