Inaugural Women’s Day race well attended

While some chose to stay in bed late for a well deserved holiday, well over 700 athletes braved the cold weather during the inaugural Muteo Consulting Women’s Day Race organised by Mzansi Athletics Club and hosted in the city last Thursday.
Athletes were given the opportunity to participate in a 5 km fun run or a 10 km and
21,1 km race. In the 10 km Joyce Netshithenshe was the first woman across the finish line with a time of 46:51 while the first male Emmanuel Ramogale of Pietersburg Road Runner (PRR) finished the race in a time of 33:22.
The first woman to finish the 21,1 km, Gift Ramabele did so in a time of 1:36.76 while her fellow club member, Tlou Peu won the men’s race in 1:09.08.
Phophi Ramathuba, MEC for Health also participated and encouraged women to live a healthy life through participation in sport.
Mzansi Athletics Club Chairperson Richard Rambiyana said they were proud to have hosted their first official race and for delivering a successful inaugural Women’s Day race. “The race was aimed at celebrating women and promoting healthy living. We extend our gratitude to everyone who attended or contributed to the success of the race, especially Muteo Consulting for putting their trust in Mzansi AC as one of their vehicles through which they can plough back to community,” Rambiyana said.
He indicated that they had the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Hangwani Makwarela had already confirmed their continued partnership to host the next Women’s Day race on 9 August 2019.
