Baroka Football Club could have won their match against Kaizer Chiefs Football Club at a packed Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday evening if they had converted the scoring opportunities they created, according to their head coach, Wedson Nyirenda. They played to a 1-1 draw instead.
The Ga-Mphahlele based outfit came into the match buoyed by their 2-1 victory against Cape City Football Club last week but failed to get maximum points from Chiefs thereby occupying sixth position of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) with four points after three matches.
During the post-match press conference at the stadium, Nyirenda, emphasised that the score line could have been different if they had converted their chances. “In the first half Kaizer Chiefs controlled most of the game and we dominated in the second half. We created a lot of scoring chances and we could have scored at least three goals. We hit the post three times in the second half, but we’ll get it right going forward,” Nyirenda said.
He also added their focus was on their match against Polokwane City Football Club scheduled for Saturday at the same venue. “We gave our all against Kaizer Chiefs which is a team with lots of experience. The Polokwane City game will be different. We are going to approach it differently because it is a local derby and no one wants to die in their own backyard. It will be exiting,” Nyirenda remarked.
Baroka midfielder, Talent Chawapiwa who was named Man of the Match for his stupendous performance, also bemoaned their finishing. “Our inability to score goals and convert chances are our main problems. It is something that we are working on every day at training and I believe we will score more goals in the upcoming matches,” Chawapiwa said.
