Black Leopards Football Club beat National First Division outfit, Tshakuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) 1-0 to win the final match of the inaugural Limpopo Legacy Soccer Spectacular at Giyani Stadium on Sunday.
Leopards, the tournament favourites, did not disappoint. They beat ABC Motsepe League side Ndengeza FC 4-1 before overcoming TTM 1-0 in the final with midfielder Lesedi Kapinga, formerly from the opposition camp, scoring the only goal.
Berry Ramunenyiwa, spokesperson, said they have shown that they are ready for the new season of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) which commences on 4 August. “The tournament formed part of our preparations for the new PSL season. It was an opportunity for the coach to assess the players and their readiness for the season. Some team members were playing to a full stadium for the first time. It was also an opportunity for the new players, especially those from neighbouring countries, to feel the atmosphere created by our supporters in our stadiums. As management we are happy with the preparations and we are ready for the big league. We have what it takes to compete effectively,” Ramunenyiwa said.
He added that they won’t be playing any competitive matches before the season the new season. “For now we will allow the team to rest. We are a few days away from the new season, so we want to keep the team fresh. The tournament took a lot out them, they played two competitive matches in one day and I think they deserve the rest,” he said.
