Head coach of the province’s Baobabs netball team, Jenne-lee Delport has heaped praise on her players for ensuring that they finish the 2018 Brutal Fruit Netball Season in a decent position.
The league came to a thrilling end in June and the Baobabs finished the campaign in the seventh position with six points after eight matches.
The season saw the Gauteng Jaguars lifting the Brutal Fruit Netball Premier League trophy for the second consecutive year after a 49-47 victory over the Western Cape Southern Stings in the last match of the league at the University of Pretoria’s Rembrandt Hall.
According to Delport the team showed lot of improvement during the tournament. “Last year we finished eighth and we are pleased with the improvement. We played well in the first round of the league. It became tougher in the last matches because all the teams were gunning for the number one spot. We gave it our all to finish in the top four bracket but it was not to be. We are not despondent. We take many positives from the season and we will continue to improve,” Delport said.
She said they will start preparing for the 2019 league season before the end of this year. “We need to prepare thoroughly for next year. We need to ensure that our players are well conditioned and ready for the league. We will also hold trials in the province and see if we cannot add more talent in the team,” Delport said.
