Excitement and anticipation precede the inaugural Tlou Molekwane Youth Day Soccer Tournament set to take place at Seshego’s Zone 6 sport grounds on Saturday. Ambitious young players from the area will have an opportunity to play football against Limpopo-born stars from the Premier Soccer League (PSL).
Tournament organiser and Bloemfontein Celtic Football Club defender, Tlou Molekwane said the tournament will be part of Youth Day celebrations and commemorations.
Molekwane who went through the ranks to progress from junior player to Bafana Bafana, said the line-up will include the cream of the province’s players
“We are looking at the likes of Vincent Kobola, Edgar Manaka, Thabiso Semenya, Puleng Tlolane, Lantshane Phalane, Victor Letsoalo, Sammy Seabi and Mahlatse Makhudubele, the cream of the province and all plying their trade in the PSL. They started from humble beginnings and they are doing well in top flight football. Our aim is to inspire and motivate young men who also want to make it big in football,” he stated.
He indicated that they also aim to uplift the morale of some of the local soccer players who have been trying to secure contracts with professional team but with no success.
“Some of them have given up hope because things are not going their way. We decided to bring their role models to them so that they can share their experiences in football, their journey and how they made it to the top. I can assure you that it was not easy for some of us. We want to motivate them. We want them to have that firsthand experience of playing professional football. It will be a rare opportunity for them and we hope they will make good use of the opportunity,” he said.
He also mentioned that they will be four teams on the day represented by players born in Seshego, Moletjie, Zebediela and Mankweng.
“The Seshego team will be represented by Mahlatse Makhudubele and Vincent Kobola, the Zebediela squad will be led by Puleng Tlolane and Lantshane Phalane and the Mankweng outfit will be led by Victor Letsoalo and Sammy Seabi. The Moletjie team will guided by Edgar Manaka and Thabiso Semenya. It will be a mix of raw talent, experience, flair and skills and we are looking forward to a great tourney,” he concluded.
