Louis Trichardt based Benny Sports Development Academy will represent the province at the 2018 Danone u.12 Nations Cup finals set for 15 September at the WJ Clements Stadium, Reiger Park.
The academy beat Kgagudi Primary School from Sekhukhune 3-2 in the provincial final match of the tournment held at Noorderland High School’s sports field on Saturday.
On their way to the final they eliminated Capricorn district representatives, Letjatji Primary School, Miragoma Primary School from Mopani and Mmamakwa Primary School from Waterberg.
Coach Mbishi Mokwena who also coached the team at the time of their 2016 national victory, said they were ready for the national finals. “We are ready for any school. We want to do well in this competition and win the national title. We have a good squad and we have already told them that this tournament is good platform for them to launch their soccer careers. So they are aware of what lies ahead of them and our promise to our supporters is that we will give our best at the nationals,” Mokwena said.
He further said they will start with the preparation for the finals on the third weekend of June. “For now we just want the players to celebrate this milestone with their friends and family. The preparations will not be easy because we don’t yet know which teams we will be up against. As part of the preparations we will be playing friendly matches against local clubs and older age groups,” Mokwena concluded.
