Black Leopards Football Club and Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila Football Club won big in the National First Division (NFD) when they recorded massive victories in their weekend fixtures.
Tshakhuma beat Mthatha Bucks 1-0 at Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday to move from fourth to second position of the log. Leopards thrashed the relegation threatened Ubuntu Cape Town 4-0 at Parow Park Stadium in Cape Town on Saturday to move up from tenth to seventh position.
Black Leopards Managing Director Tshifiwa Thidiela said their feat against Ubuntu Cape Town was a sign of greater things to come. “We really needed that victory to boost our confidence and also keep up with the top performing teams in the division. Our target is to reach the promotional play-offs spot and we are still on course. We have ten matches to play and out of those we are looking for 30 points which is achievable,” Thidiela said.
Tshakhuma head coach Sello Chokoe applauded his charges for the commitment and determination they have shown in the last 20 matches of the division. “We are not in second position by fluke. We have managed to assemble a good team which comprises of talented hungry players and those that were rejected by Premier Soccer League teams. They want to prove themselves. They have the zeal to achieve more and that is what keeps us going.”
He also mentioned that he wanted to keep the team in second position and challenge for a spot in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) through the promotional play-offs. “We want to compete in the PSL next season. That was a primary objective since the start of the season. We are capable, we have shown to the opposition teams that we mean business.
Chokoe reminded that they had lost only one match at home and beaten all the top teams in the division. The team can also win the division they just have to be consistent in the last 10 remaining matches,” Chokoe said.
