The second qualifier of the Western Mounted Games held at Winnfield Stables saw 71 riders on horseback from across the province participating.
Capricorn Western Mounted Games Chairperson (CWMG), Mariette Engels said it was a successful event with over 70 riders who ensured that spectators never experienced a dull moment during the day. According to her it was the biggest event of its kind to be hosted in Limpopo.
In the South African National Equestrian Schools Association (Sanesa) category for level 0 high school riders Benedette du Bruyn from Hoër Tegniese Skool Tom Naudé claimed first position while CWMG’s young riders Zandré Olivier and Dené Bierman were awarded first and second place respectively in the Lead Reign category. Benedette also achieved an overall second place in the level 0 category for senior riders.
In level 0 to 3 for senior riders Kayla van Zyl, Courtney Sparrow, Hannes van der Merwe and Melody Bond achieved gold respectively.
In the primary school category for level 0 to 2 De la Rey Kotzee, Wihan Engelbrecht and Stefaans van Jaarsveld claimed first positions while Benedette du Bruyn, Adriaan van Brakel, Hannes van der Merwe and Dawie van Jaarsveld topped the podium in level 0 tot 3 for high school participants.
Top achievements were also allocated to Cliff Wiggill as best men’s rider and Melody Bond as best women’s rider. Wiggill also won the prize for best sit while Tienie Myburgh and Zandré were announced as oldest and youngest riders respectively. The Slakkie prize was awarded to Brenda van Bosh.
Riders who were promoted to the next level are Melody Bond (level 3), Amelia du Plooi (level 2), Adriaan (level 2), Hardus Engelbrecht (level 1), Annabel Kotzee (level 1), De la Rey (level 1) and AJ van der Westhuizen (level 1).
