All the arrangements for the Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) 4-in-1 Marathon that will take place at the Polokwane Rugby Fields from 06:00 next Saturday are in place and the pre-registration process has been met with a promising response.
Athletes can register on line at https://goo.gl/Zrurzgor, at CDM at 41 Biccard Street on weekdays from 09:00 to 15:00, or on 14 February between 17:00 and 19:00 at Polokwane Athletic Club. Final registrations will also be accepted at Polokwane Rugby Fields from 16:00 to 19:00 on 16 February and before the race from 04:30 to 05:45.
Registration fees for the 5-, 10-, 21,1- and 42,2 km distances are R40, R60, R120 and R180 respectively and temporary licences for all races except the 5 km run cost R30 and are compulsory. Free T-shirts will be given to the first 1 000 registrations.
CDM Executive Mayor, John Mpe is confident that more than 5 000 athletes will take part in the event, which is a qualifier for the Comrades and Two Oceans marathons later this year.
Mpe said that the event has grown every year. “Last year we had prizes amounting to R50 000 for the winners in the different categories and this year it will be R150 000. Cash prizes include R15 000 for position 1 in the
42,2 km race for both the male and female categories, R7 500 for the 21,1 km and R5 000 for the
10 km. Special awards will be made to disabled athletes,” Mpe recently announced at the launch of the event.
“Six water points will be provided on route and CDM has partnered with Capricorn TVET College and Capricorn High School to provide marshals that will be visible all over the marathon precinct. The South African Red Cross and the Department of Health will be available to nurse those who might need attention and there will also be a recovery area where finishers will receive clinical therapy.”
