Rainy weather did not stop road runners from supporting The Ranch Trail Run4Cansa hosted by Pietersburg Road Runners in conjunction with the Ranch Resort on Saturday.
Participants were initially hesitant to report to the starting point after the resort management announced that the course was slippery. Some withdrew while others opted to wear raincoats and use umbrellas yet honour their commitment to run. No amount of cover could however shield them from getting soaked.
The first category to start was the 15 km where Kwena Matlala took the lead and finished the race in 31:15 followed by Alpheus Sedutla and Charles Selowa.
In the 10 km run Tewis Willemse made his opponents eat mud as he led from the start and finished in a time of 44:51. Nemathithi Tebele was second and Casious Nkuna settled for third position.
Results are still awaited for the female categories and at the time of going to print it was learnt that
R20 000 had been collected for Cansa.
One of the organisers, Jacques van Blerk said they had expected 4 000 athletes but the weather influenced the number of participants.
He said a meeting with all the organisers was scheduled for yesterday (Wednesday) evening to finalise the statistics.
