Baroka Football Club has its sights set on causing a major upset on Tuesday when they take on Premier Soccer League (PSL) and Confederation of African Football champions, Mamelodi Sundowns at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Tuesday.
While they are currently leading the PSL pack with 19 points after 12 matches a victory against Sundowns, an achievement which has thus far in the PSL evaded them, could see them going into the Festive Season break with 22 points.
“We have never beaten them in any league and cup matches. However, we are currently doing well in the league – we are on top and want to sustain and maintain the position and we can’t afford to drop points. The pressure is on them because they would want to continue with the winning streak against us but it is going to be a different ball game this time,” Baroka Football Club, Spokesperson, Jimmy Ngobeni said.
He also mentioned that they would have loved to win their match against Platinum Stars Football Club which ended in a 2-2 draw at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday but they were let down by their defensive errors. “We played very well but we conceded silly goals, I think we could have defended well. We appreciate a point but we should have won the match. The last time we won a match was in September against Kaizer Chiefs and that is not good at all. Since then we drew five matches and don’t want to draw any more, we want maximum points,” Ngobeni said.
Malawian international, Robin Ngalande and Botswana international, Mpho Kgaswane scored for Baroka while Katlego Otladisa and Robert Ng’ambi converted for Stars.
