Swimmers gear up for national champs

The province’s swimmers were keen to attain good times and positions during the Eagar Aquatics Sprint Gala held at the municipal swimming pools on Saturday in order to secure a spot in the team that will participate in the national championships expected to take place in Durban next March.
According to the tournament organiser, Dougie Eager 138 aspiring professional swimmers took part and he was happy with the turnout. He indicated that the gathering was for swimmers to prepare for the nationals for different age groups.
Four swimmers stood out by getting podium positions in all their items. Ashleigh Hunter, 16 and over, won all five her items while Abigail Olivier, u.11, won the freestyle and individual medley, attained two second places and was third in the 50 m butterfly stroke.
Ayden Jordaan, u.13, won four rounds and finished third in the 100 m backstroke. Ethan Anderson, u.15 won three items and attained two second and one third places. Eager said all the swimmers did exceptionally well and he was confident that those who qualified for the nationals will do their best and bring medals home.
